Christmas was once a time for family
Intense with waking up to Santa's pillowcases of surprise
Champaign, presents at noon
Grandparents smoke cigars
A family feast, and playing in the upstairs room
Now we try to fit Christmas
Into our schedules of here and there
With distance driving, more cards to write, and less awe
The work of engineering the family to meet
Creates a miscellaneous celebratory jigsaw
