Sophie finishes her shift at Home Bargain. She spits out her chewing gum onto the sidewalk and puts on a pair of bright blue gloves. She hopes things will go better with Wain and they won't argue like last time.
Sophie finds him busking on the Kendal high street, playing an old banjo, and wearing low slung jeans and bright red shoes. “Sup” he says.
Sophie clicks her tongue piercing against her teeth. “Not much” she replies.
It's Sunday afternoon. “Play me a song,” Sophie says. Wain runs a hand through his scruffy wild hair. He strums out a comedic melody.
Later the two teenagers stand together casually looking into a jewelry shop window. Wain likes the fancy expensive watches, displayed amid bracelets and sparkling rings. Sophie glances at engagement rings and wonders what it would be like to be married.
“Hey there,” comes a voice from behind. It's Martin, the third member of the group. Looking skinny, he wears a biker jacket that seems to be a size too large, and his bleached hair is looking rather yellow in the sunlight.
Sophie feels a little let down as she wanted Wain for herself today, and her parents said to be back home by 5pm.
Martin and Wain exchange fist bumps and friendly banter. In a short time all three are vaping as they walk on down towards the building where Martin keeps his drum kit. It's time for another jam session.
