Yanson sat forward in the sled and spurred on the team of husky dogs. The frozen sea ahead was already heavily tracked with trails made by other traders making their way along the coast towards Crystal City. The city had been rising on the horizon with its angular lasered granite and ice towers sparkling in the slanting sunshine. The clouds were lifting and the blizzard that had kept Yanson bundled among furs for hours was abating, letting him stretch out and really ride the sled with enthusiasm—dog's yapping as they ran.
Yanson was hopeful about this mission, as he had procured a collection of rotary crystalizers from the industrial zone in the south. These new units could build geometric structures in seconds, extruding blocks of stone or ice, from raw materials. The completed crystalline shapes could be interlocked precisely—something that city builders surely would value.
